What a power element does

The power element is the working piece inside a flow valve. It is what responds to conditions in the heater and moves the valve, so when it stops doing its job the valve stops behaving predictably and the heater follows.

Pentair split this part by valve date. This element is the one for flow valves after 02/01, and valves made before that take a different part. Getting the date wrong is the most common way to end up with an element that will not fit, so identify the valve on the heater first.
