What refractory does

Refractory is the insulating material that lines the ends of the combustion chamber. It holds heat where the burners need it and keeps flame off the surrounding metal. When it cracks through or breaks apart, the heater loses that shield and the damage moves on to parts that cost a great deal more than a refractory kit.

Raypak sizes refractory to the model, and this kit is listed for the 266A within an atmospheric range that runs from the 206A to the 406A. Read the model number off the rating plate rather than going by the look of the cabinet, since the sizes share a family appearance.
