Description

The Dura Plastics 479-020 is a 2 inch PVC coupling with extra deep slip sockets on both ends. It joins two lengths of 2 inch pipe with a solvent welded joint.

Why the extra depth helps

A standard coupling only has so much socket to work with. The extra deep version gives more bonding surface for the joint and, just as usefully, more travel. On a repair you can push the coupling all the way onto one pipe, bring the ends together, then slide it back so it sits evenly across the cut. That is a great deal easier than trying to spring rigid pipe apart to drop a short coupling in.

Fitting it

Both ends are plain slip, so the joint is primed and solvent welded like any other PVC connection. There is no thread to seal and nothing that can back off under vibration once the cement has cured.
