Description

The Raypak 014868F is the combination gas valve for the 106A and 156A pool and spa heaters, in the liquid propane version. It is the genuine Raypak part.

Propane only

Gas valves are specific to the fuel. This one is the liquid propane version; a natural gas heater takes a different Raypak part. Confirm which fuel your heater is set up for before ordering, because the two are not interchangeable and fitting the wrong valve is a safety problem, not an inconvenience.

What a combination valve does

It puts two jobs in one body. It opens and closes the gas on a call for heat, and it regulates the pressure delivered to the burner. Both of those have to be right for the heater to light cleanly and burn correctly.

Diagnosing before you replace

The classic symptom is a heater that runs its sequence and sparks but never lights, with gas at the inlet. That same symptom comes from ignition controls, pressure switches and blocked burners, so have a technician check manifold pressure with a manometer rather than replacing the valve on suspicion.

Installation

Gas valve replacement is licensed technician work, and the joints have to be leak checked before the heater is put back in service.
